Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe moved to Category A prison

It is being reported that the 'Yorkshire Ripper', Peter Sutcliffe, has been moved from Broadmoor Hospital back to a Category A prison.

Peter Sutcliffe has been in Broadmoor since 1984 after he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia following his life sentence in 1981.

The move also has financial benefits as being confined in a Category A prison costs around £45,000 per year - compared to in excess of £300,000 for a year in Broadmoor Hospital.

It is thought that Sutcliffe may have been moved to Frankland Prison in County Durham - but this remains unconfirmed. The Prison Service will not discuss Peter's whereabouts.

Peter Sutcliffe now calls himself Peter Coonan.

Sutcliffe had spent 32 years in Broadmoor Hospital diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia after murdering thirteen women and attempting to kill at least seven others. His reign of terror ran from 1976 to 1981.
